If your passport is expiring within next 1 year, then you may need to renew the passport from USA, through appropriate Indian embassy. I am going to list down all the step that you need to follow to renew the passport.  What we want to do?

1.  Passport is expiring within next 12 months, and we want to renew.

2. No change in the address that is mentioned in the passport (this is easiest, without much hassle)

Please follow the step i have listed below (which is available in https://visa.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/ind/apply-passport):

1. Identify the passport service type (just informational site - to decide what we want)

- select whatever server you want, mostly you may be selecting " Re-issuance of Passport - Tatkal Service"

2. Begin your application - this is indian embassy site, where you need to create a profile.

- register in this site

- login with your credentional

- Apply for Ordinary Passport -> enter all the necessary details

-- like re issue of passport,Validity Expired Within 3 Years/Due To Expire

- after submitting the application make note of application refrence number (ARN) , which is needed for VFS mail and all other


3. Complete Mail-in application process and Pay fees (Mandatory) - this is for VFS mailing.
-Go to https://services.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/ind/postal-interim
- click on "I accept – Start Postal application Registration for OCI/Passport/GEP/PCC/Renunciation process now" to start application for passport renew in VFS.
